Storm damage: tree on the house?Get everyone safe, then call for emergency removal.

Storm season is tree season in Huntsville

North Alabama gets its share of severe weather, and most emergency tree calls follow a storm. When a big tree comes down on a house, you want a crew with the equipment to lift it off safely, not just a chainsaw.

If a tree is touching a power line, stay back and call Huntsville Utilities (or your power company) first. A tree company can’t safely work until the line is handled.

Common questions

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Huntsville?

Usually not for a tree on your own lot. The City’s tree ordinance covers trees on public land and easements. Historic districts, new construction and HOA neighborhoods can have their own rules.

Who handles a city tree that falls on my property?

If the tree was on City of Huntsville property or in the right-of-way, contact the City’s Landscape Management department. Your own trees are your responsibility, even if they land in the street.

What does tree removal cost?

Most single-tree removals in the Huntsville area run about $280 to $1,200, more for very large trees, tight spots and emergencies. See typical costs by tree size.

Is Big Spring Tree Service a tree company?

No. We’re a free referral service. We connect you with an independent local tree company, which quotes and does the work directly with you.
